Once upon a time, an extended family left their home and embarked on an unknown journey. Kids, parents, aunts, uncles and family best friends, all determined to walk to a better life just beyond the next hill.
This artwork invites you into a story of courage, determination, and the beauty of moving forward together.
The stems were the key to these paintings. A brush made them too heavy and too deliberate, so I thinned the paint, gathered it on a paint-stirring stick, and flicked it onto the canvas. The stems arrived through movement rather than being drawn — which is why the whole family reads as walking rather than standing.
