In a mountain pass, for a moment, the spirit poppies dance in the sky as if no one is watching. The strong wind bends their stems, and they take turns playing by forming shapes. Like fireworks.
In that fleeting instant a young woman, a siren, materialises — only to be reshaped in the next passing moment. But this is the present. The future is yet to come.
The stems were the key to these paintings. A brush made them too heavy and too deliberate, so I thinned the paint, gathered it on a paint-stirring stick, and flicked it onto the canvas. The stems arrived through movement rather than being drawn — which is why the figure appears and dissolves the way it does.
